Once Again Favorite German Sea Weapon
New York.....Off on its short voyage of destruction, a torpedo is shown here shortly after it had been fired. This was the weapon with which Germany did such terrific damage to merchant shipping in the first world war. Although the second world war is but one week old, indications are that the same policy will be followed already the S.S. Athenia, passenger liner of Britain, carrying 1,400 war refugees to Canada has gone to the bottom of the sea off the coast of Scotland. Officers and survivors insist a torpedo sent her there. Since the Athenia sinking some half-dozen British and French merchant ships have been sunk by submarines.
